How to Pose Hands during Wedding, Portrait and Fashion Photography
During Photography one of the most challenging and confusing element is posing hands and how to make use of hands in a photo shoot. Hands are so important body part in candidate photography because that adds a message to your image. If you give a wrong or improper hand pose that completely gives a different or sometimes bad image. While if you give a correct hand poses they can convey strength, softness, femininity, masculinity and shows love, affection, and care between couples.
So before having your wedding, Portrait or fashion photo shoot have you planned or thought-“what hand pose best suits in your style, background, natural light that gives realistic emotional & feelings to your image?” If not, there are few small but very important tips that can give meaning to your image. In Photography, if you avoid small points it can completely change your image.
Here are a few helpful tips and ideas to keep in mind for your next wedding, portrait, or fashion shoot that may help correct the most common hand posing issues.
• Convey to your bride or model to relax or soften their hands
• Bending the wrist is simple trick to break a straight line and create more shape and texture in a shot
• Make your handing doing something that appears natural and confident
• While the couple, pre-wedding or wedding photo shoot if you cuddling your girlfriend, boyfriend, husband or wife, tell the bride to touch the groom’s hand, chest, face or kiss his forehead in such a way that says, “I Love You”. Have the groom’s hand on the bride’s waist or holding her hand that shows his Loves and care for her. This can really change the emotions of your photos.
• Small things like nail polish or nails, it should be clear.
• If a model is wearing makeup on their face, tell her/him to put a bit of bronzer to hands, as it looks worse when hands appear to be three shades lighter or darker then rest of the body or face.
• Naturally running hands through hairs or play with strands of hairs adds a great impact on your image. This works for male and female models.
• For female model, placing their hands on their hips can create an optical illusion of a smaller waist.
• When asking models to rest their hands on a face or their body, ensure they are only lightly touching with their hands so they don’t distort the face or body. Hands look best when they are photographed side-on as it reduces their size.
• While posing groups tell every model to do something different with their hands because I think it makes photo/portrait look more dynamic
With all tips in mind, the most important thing to remember is that nothing can achieve that photography goal which a natural realistic location of hands and other body parts can create. So I suggest going out with friend or model and just practicing to see what works and what doesn’t. This way you’ll have confidence in your next wedding day, portrait or fashion shoot
